I know a lot of people are wondering if I got a new car. I only wish! The GMC Envoy I am driving is my hubbies! We switched trucks last weekend, I can no longer lift Henry to get him into the Tahoe, it's just too tall and the back doors are too small. Last Friday when I loaded Henry in the Tahoe, I lost my grip slamming his poor foot into the door jam and hurting a couple of toes pretty bad. The Envoy is much lower and has leather seats, so getting him in and out of it is so much easier. I only have to lift him into the front seat of the truck and transfer him out, less lifting, except for when I have to put him in the back seat!
I have also been asked by a few people, Can Henry stand? No, he cannot stand, he can't hold any of his weight on his feet or legs, it's very painful for him. When he tried back when we did therapy to try to get him to walk again, he would only scream at the top of his lungs and cry "STOP, STOP, IT HURTS"! One thing any normal mother never wants to do is cause unbearable pain for their child. We tried other ways, but it just seemed impossible. When the doctor said that we missed that window, it broke our hearts even more and we knew we had to stop trying. Now we do therapy to keep his muscles strong so they don't deteriorate any faster. At least when it's warm enough for aqua therapy, Henry is free, he gets to use his legs and move all over the pool!
And please, just know that if you have any questions, don't be afraid to ask, I don't mind telling you, I want to educate as many as I can about this stupid disease. Also remember that Henry has no idea that his life is short, it's not anything he needs to deal with, he has enough on his mind.
Thank you everyone for your love, caring hearts and support! We are forever grateful!!!
